I have loved Basketball since childhood. Like most 90s kids would know sporting your favorite NBA apparel was in back then. Remember those awesome Starter jackets? Oh yeah! I had my favorite teams which you could guess included the Bulls as they were making history at the time, but I also liked the Orlando Magic. I remember when a new team entered the NBA scene in 1995. The Toronto Raptors! I feel in love as soon as I saw that logo and remember asking for a Toronto Raptors T-shirt. My new interest in this team I’m certain was strongly driven by aesthetics and their mascot. I’ve always been a geek for dinosaurs, and what fun colors they had! I was immediately a new fan.
Here I am eighteen years later still in love with basketball and given the opportunity to design a logo for an officials clinic the Toronto Raptors will be hosting. Needless to say, I was stoked!
Here are the five rough concepts I chose from my thumbnail sketching phase.
From the sketches, I refined and developed three concepts for them to choose from. Below are two of those that I felt worked best. In the beginning, the event was going to be called a Referee Clinic, but later down the line, it was changed to Officials Seminar.
The last image is the final logo that was chosen and will be used for the seminar.
Great Work
