Last year I had the exciting opportunity to work on a few different logo and custom lettering design projects for Nickelodeon. I had written about my Welcome to the Wayne logo that was used for a short series on Nick.com. I wanted to also share my process behind another project. Unlike the Welcome to the Wayne logo, none of my concepts for this project were chosen to represent the show. I was still happy with the outcome and diversity of the marks I got to explore and create while working with the wonderful creative leads at Nickelodeon.
Working with the creative directors at Nickelodeon was great. They gave me very clear direction on the different styles they wanted to see, and excellent feedback as we worked on creating these concepts for consideration.
As always, I start with a lot of sketching! Below is only five of the sketches we chose to take forward into digital refinement.
Here are those concepts now refined/drawn in Illustrator ready to present. The topmost concept was my personal favorite. As you can see a diverse range of styles were explored.
While it can be disappointing to not have one of your concepts chosen, in the end, I have learned to not take it hard and still enjoy the process and end result. Most experienced designers get used to the fact that some of our favorite designs may not always get chosen. We still get the complete pleasure of getting to do what we do!
