In 2014 Welcome to the Wayne was a new short online series. It started off playing weekly on nick.com. WTTW is an animated comedy that follows the adventures of two ten-year-old boys, Olly Timbers and Ansi Molina as they explore their crazy apartment building in NYC, the Wayne. The series takes you the ups and downs of their budding friendship ā and their narrow escape from the clutches of the Spy from 8-Iā and introduces us to the endless, unpredictable world of the Wayne and its residents. I was initially hired back then to create the logo for the online series. As all designer know, you don’t get to the final logo without going through a few concepts and rounds. I thought I would share just a bit of the process behind this logo. The creative director and team that I worked with on this were absolutely outstanding. Great initial briefing and direction as well as clear and timely feedback through the whole process.
Here are some of my few first sketches as we began the process in 2014. From the beginning, I was challenged to look at the illustrations of the Wayne building both in and out and create lettering that was remnant of the Wayne as it is the root of where all the craziness of the story goes down.
Naturally, I went on to refine three of the rough sketches and this is where I landed in that point of the process. After a few more rounds of refinement, bringing things together and working through colors, the final logo was birthed. Its all about the process!
Finally in 2017 Nick came back to me and wanted to make some changes to the frame portion of the logo to spruce it up for the show’s 2017 TV debut! I was so thrilled to get to do some fine polishing on the mark and to learn the show had made it way from just an online series to a TV show.
So cool… I enjoy seeing your work, and this is just fun!
